Moving Walkways & Travelators

A travelator — or moving walkway — is the answer when people must travel a long horizontal distance, or move between floors while pushing a shopping trolley. In airports it cuts tiring walking time; in hypermarkets and malls it lets visitors carry a full trolley safely between floors — something an escalator cannot do.

We supply flat (horizontal) travelators for long corridors and inclined 10°–12° travelators with pallets that grip trolley wheels, making them safe for shopping trolleys and wheelchairs.

Inclined moving walkway in a shopping centre

Scope of work

  • Flat travelators — for airport corridors, stations and terminals, modular length to suit.
  • Inclined travelators — 10°–12° with anti-slip pallets and trolley brakes, linking floors.
  • Installation — truss, glass balustrade, synchronized handrail, and integration with floor and ceiling.
  • Safety — comb sensors, emergency stops, automatic brakes and a trolley-brake system on inclined models.
  • Energy saving — auto standby mode and start when passengers are present.

Who it is for

Airports and transport terminals, hypermarkets and wholesale centres, large malls with inter-floor parking, exhibition and convention centres. For new hypermarkets and malls in Kalimantan, an inclined travelator helps visitors carry shopping to parking on a different floor.

Installation timeline

A travelator usually installs in 1–3 weeks per unit once the truss arrives and the structure is ready. The length of a flat travelator affects duration as it is installed modularly.

Safety standards & SNI

Our travelators follow SNI standards and Disnaker inspection, with brake, handrail-speed and trolley-system testing. We prepare the compliance documents for legal operation.

Maintenance

Like escalators, travelators run almost non-stop and need a regular maintenance contract for lubrication, brakes and pallet replacement.

Moving Walkways / Travelators — Common Questions

What is the difference between a flat and inclined travelator?
A flat travelator handles long horizontal travel (airport corridors). An inclined travelator (10°–12°) links floors and has a trolley-brake system so shopping trolleys travel safely — something an escalator cannot do.
Is it safe to take a shopping trolley on a travelator?
Yes, on an inclined travelator with pallets and a dedicated trolley-brake system, the trolley wheels lock to the surface so they cannot roll. This is the travelator's key advantage over escalators for hypermarkets.
What is the maximum incline of a travelator?
Usually 10°–12° — gentler than an escalator (30°–35°). This gentle incline is what allows trolleys and wheelchairs to pass safely.
Are travelators energy-efficient?
Modern travelators include standby mode and presence sensors so they only run at full speed when passengers are present, cutting electricity use significantly.
