Elevator Modernization & Controllers
A 15β20 year-old lift does not necessarily need full replacement. Often it is the 'brain and heart' that has worn out β an old relay controller, a power-hungry geared motor, doors that keep jamming β while the shaft, rails and car frame are still sound. This is where modernization comes in: replacing the critical components to restore reliability and efficiency, at a fraction of the cost of a new unit and with no major civil works.
We carry out phased or complete modernization: from simply replacing the controller and drive, to a full modernization including a gearless machine, new automatic doors, cabin and modern COP/LOP panels.
Scope of work
- Controller replacement β from old relay systems to a modern microprocessor controller that is more reliable and easier to diagnose.
- VVVF drive upgrade β replacing a power-hungry geared motor with an energy-saving VVVF drive, smoother ride and better leveling accuracy.
- Doors & door operator β new automatic doors with light-curtain sensors, fixing the most common cause of breakdowns.
- Cabin & panels β fresh cabin finishes, COP/LOP panels with displays and voice, braille buttons.
- MRL conversion β where feasible, converting from geared to gearless to free up the machine room and cut the power bill.
Who it is for
Owners and managers of offices, apartments, hotels and hospitals whose ageing lifts have become troublesome, slow, power-hungry or hard to source parts for. For older buildings in central Jakarta and Kalimantan, modernization extends asset life by 10β15 years without a new-unit investment.
Timeline & operational disruption
Controller + drive modernization usually takes 1β2 weeks per lift; a full modernization 3β5 weeks. For buildings with several lifts, we work in rotation so at least one lift keeps serving occupants.
Safety standards & SNI
Modernization is the right moment to bring an old lift up to current safety standards β adding ARD, light curtains and modern protection. After modernization we arrange re-inspection so the safety certificate is renewed.
Why modernize instead of replace?
Modernization typically costs 30β60% of a new unit, with no shaft demolition and no long downtime. The result: a lift that feels new, uses less energy, with parts available again. Only when the shaft structure is no longer fit do we recommend new-unit replacement.
